“Sleep is the key to a healthy body. A healthy body is the starting point for a healthy mind.”
— Viktor Frankl.
How can I help you?
Understanding how you sleep and what your bedtime routines are, can be really important when searching for a good nights sleep. Many people find relief in understanding how our bodies behave during sleep and bringing worrying events into their own awareness. Remember, everybody knows how to sleep. Sleep problems can often be seen as a loss of that knowledge. So in working toward good sleep hygiene, we can also bring about changes through hypnosis that will help your mind find the rest it needs.
Insomnia and Sleep Issues
Our body and our mind are tied together in countless ways. Sleep is hugely important for maintaining a good level of both physical and mental health. Sleep allows you to rest and repair so that you are ready for the new day and the best habit we can have is to get into a regular and reliable pattern of sleep.
For most of us, sleep is something we take for granted; until we don't get enough. A night of sleep is made up of different phases. When allowed to run their course, these phases help your mind to process and learn from the events that have gone on in your day. Meanwhile, your body has time to repair and regenerate. This cycle or rest and regeneration is something we have only begun to understand in recent decades, and yet it is all too easy to lose sleep and find that your life is out of balance.
If you have repeated disruption to your sleep, this can be described as Insomnia. The condition can last anything from a few days to months (chronic insomnia) and can lead to hormonal disruption, immune responses and depression. Insomnia can lead to a wide range of symptoms including loss of focus, understanding of the world around you and repeated waking or activity at times when you need to rest.
There can be many causes for insomnia and broken sleep. Sleep troubles may be brought about by a traumatic event that your mind is struggling to deal with. However, some sleep problems can develop gradually. Whether you are unable to switch of from life or have overstimulated your brain with screen time, caffeine or alcohol, these type of activity undermines any desire you may have to get a good night of rest. Building a healthy routine before bed and understanding the biological triggers that can stimulate rather than relax, are all helpful strategies.
Some clients find that an understanding of what is going on with your sleeping brain, can really go a long way to relieving their sleep anxiety and in turn bring regular and restorative sleep back into their lives.
Bear in mind that it may be that your sleep problems have escalated to one of the recognised sleep disorders such as sleep paralysis, night terrors and sleepwalking. If you are experiencing a sleep disorder, it is important to consult your G.P. who will be able to give you a diagnosis and advice.
What is Therapy & Counselling?
Many people have an idea of what therapy is like because they have seen it depicted on television or in films. You make have seen someone lying on a couch or talking to an “Expert Therapist” who nods knowingly. This can be a reality for some people, but the truth is that the only expert on how to be you, is you. Your therapy at Assisi Therapy in Salisbury can include Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy or Counselling and the only thing that influences the balance of these approaches, is what is best for you.
